BAY LODGE
RESORT
Set on one of the most stunning long white sandy beaches in the Yasawas and surrounded by palm trees and crystal clear waters, Oarsman’s Bay Lodge offers a warm and friendly ambiance and the ultimate in tranquility.
Welcome singers bearing refreshing glasses of fruit juice and smiles wait to greet every guest. Once you step ashore you are on "Bula Time" -- there is no rush, no hassle, just relaxation.
Whether kicking back in the outdoor restaurant and bar, relaxing in one of the many hammocks scattered along the beach, enjoying a game of volleyball with wonderful Fijian staff or visiting a local Fijian village, you'll be hard pressed to find a more idyllic and breathtakingly beautiful location to wile away your time.
LOCATION
Oarsman’s Bay Lodge is located on Nacula Island near the historic village of Nacula. The Island, which is just north of the Blue Lagoon area and Tavewa, is the third largest in the volcanic Yasawa Island Group.
The resort itself is situated on one of the most magnificent beaches in the Yasawas and all bures are just a few steps to the long stretch of white sand and crystal clear swimming waters.
HISTORY
Unlike many other Fijian resorts, this intimate and affordable property is owned and operated by the locals. Oarsman's, which opened in September 2000, is owned by the Natia Mataqali, who are the traditional landowners of the area on which the resort is situated. Ratu Epeli, the Managing Director of Oarsman's Bay Lodge, is the Chief of the Yavusa (tribe) and thus the Tui Drola or high chief of this tikina (district).
Approximately 3,500 people live in the tikina, which includes the middle islands of the Yasawa chain. Nacula Island has been the home of Ratu Epeli's people for countless generations. They live in harmony with the land and sea and still practice many cultural traditions of the area. |
